April 15, 2016

April is Pet First Aid Awareness Month, and while we hope you never need to provide emergency care to your furry friends, we do recommend familiarizing yourself with some basic instructions, just in case an emergency occurs. The American Red Cross offers an app for pet parents that provides step-by-step instructions for dealing with more than 25 common first aid situations.

A Sticky Situation

Warmer temperatures and budding flowers mean spring has arrived—and we're sure you and your pet are eager to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. However, we want you to be aware of one of the season's sneakiest hazards: foxtails.

Pets are Purr-fection

April 11, 2016

Since 2005, National Pet Day has been observed to celebrate the joy and companionship these special creatures bring to our lives, as well as to remind people everywhere of the millions of terrific pets in shelters who are just waiting for a loving, forever home.

Founded by pet advocate Colleen Paige, National Pet Day is a perfect opportunity to do something to help pets in need.

Ticks are nasty little critters, causing problems for both animals and humans. One of the most famous dangers associated with ticks is Lyme disease.
Lyme disease is transmitted by the deer tick (or black-legged tick) and the western black-legged tick. These ticks are quite small and hard to spot by humans.

Strut with your Mutt

April 6, 2016

The first Wednesday of April is designated as National Walking Day by the National Heart Association. The event challenges folks to take at least 30 minutes out of their day just to walk. If your dog (or possibly cat) gets this message, you can be sure that excitement will ensue as it mixes two of his favorite things, spending time with you and exploring outdoors!
