While spoiling your two-legged kids is generally frowned upon, no one will raise an eyebrow if you treat your dog to some extra-special pampering, and Spoil Your Dog Day on Aug. 10 is as good an excuse as any! While your dog would probably consider a little extra attention or a belly rub a treat of the highest order, consider these options to truly coddle your canine.
Spa day. Treat your dog to a spa day with our groomer. Not only will he get some one-on-one attention, he’ll smell much better when you cuddle at the end of the day!
Homemade treats. Not a good baker? No problem! Check out a “bark”-ery in our area that specializes in homemade doggy treats.
Doggy daycare. Schedule a day for your dog to come hang out at our doggy daycare and make some new friends instead of napping at home while you’re at work. The best part is that he’ll get plenty of exercise and be ready to curl up and cuddle when you get him home.
New toys. Pick up a new toy–or three! Maybe an old favorite needs replacing, or your pup is ready for something new. Either way, he’ll be excited about getting something new to play with!
Water play. If your pup is a water dog, set up a sprinkler in the backyard and let him run through it. Put on your suit and join in, and he’ll think it’s the best day ever! Or make plans to take your dog to a nearby lake or beach for a walk near the water.
Go for a ride. Get in the car, buckle your dog in (yes, they make seat belts and car seats for dogs!), roll down the windows and watch your dog enjoy the breeze as you drive around the neighborhood.
Take a hike. But not literally, unless your dog enjoys getting out on the hiking trails with you! But taking a different route for your daily walk or making it a little longer gets you both some good exercise and allows your dog a few extra, interesting sniffs along the way.
Stable routine. Dogs are pack animals, and there is no better way to show your love than by having consistent rules and a routine schedule for feeding, playtime and naps.
Whatever way you choose to spoil your dog, have fun doing it!
